Placement at XISS

The campus placement of the students of XISS is co-ordinated by the Central Placement Cell headed by Chief Coordinator. It works in unison with Departmental Placement Cells, constituted of students. The Departmental Placement Cells are guided by senior faculty members from respective departments.
The Placement Process
For the convenience of the prospective employers, the outline of the Campus Placement Programme is given below:
Campus Placement at XISS takes place in two phases:
Phase– I: 28th October 2015 to 5th December 2015.
Phase–II: 5th January 2016 to 31st March 2016.
For the Final Placement batch of 2014-2016 Phase I starts on 28th October 2015 and continues till 5th December 2015. Phase II starts on 5th January 2016 and continues till 31st March 2016.
Interested companies are requested to inform in advance the date on which they wish to visit XISS for campus placement. They are also requested to indicate the facilities required for the selection procedure, viz. accommodation/ transport facilities and booking requirements.
On receiving communication from interested companies for bio-data of students, the Placement Cell shall forward the same to them. Group Discussions, Interviews and other methods of selection adopted by the organization are conducted in the campus. If required, students may be called for final interviews at the company’s expense to its headquarters.
The candidates placed in one organization are not allowed to be the part of the placement activity for any other organization. If any student gets enlisted in more than one organization then the organization coming up with the final list first, has the opportunity to take that student in their organization.
On confirming final selection, the appointment letter issued by the organization is sent to the candidate through the Placement Cell.
Pre-Placement Talk (PPT)
All the companies are expected to deliver a Pre-Placement Presentation to the students where all relevant information about the job may be discussed. If such a presentation is not possible on the part of any company, then it is requested to send all relevant details making use of the Permanent Placement Reply Format in advance to the Placement Co-ordinator. PPTs can also be held by the company just prior to the commencement of the Campus Placement Programme at the Institute.
Date of Joining
The students of the batch 2014-16 will be ready to join their respective organizations from 7th of April 2016 after the convocation. The summer interns (batch 2015-17) will be ready to undertake SIP of 6-8 weeks duration between 20th of April, 2016 and 20th of June 2016 depending upon the requirements of the project.
Campus on Wheels
In the last few years, though interested to recruit from the Institute, some organizations have not been able to come down to the campus due to certain unavoidable reasons. With a view to accommodate the request of such organizations, the Institute has introduced “Campus on Wheels”. The organizations interested in recruiting through “Campus on Wheels” should send back the response form, in the specified format. They should also attach the relevant information about the job along with the form.

Xavier Institute of Social Service Ranchi

Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS) is a Jesuit run business school in Ranchi, India. It is a Sister college of XLRI, Jamshedpur and Loyola College, Chennai both of which are Jesuit run and well-known in India. It was established as an extension department of St. Xavier's College, Ranchi, in the year 1955 with the objective of training young men and women in Rural Development, Personnel Management and Industrial Relations. In 1973 the institute was registered as a separate educational society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. In 1978, it moved to its present site. Admission to the institute is done on the basis of the score obtained in one of the institute approved tests like Xavier Aptitude Test  CAT/CMAT and subsequent Group Discussion - Personal Interview (GD-PI) conducted for the shortlisted candidates in the respective centers allocated. In 2011, XISS was ranked 33rd overall among the top 40 B-schools in India.



Admission

Xavier Institute of Social Service RanchiCandidates are required to apply separately to the institute with their required course preferences as soon as the registration process for admission begins, which will be mentioned on the college website. Applications can be submitted online. Entry into XISS is obtained by getting the adequate cut-off score (as set by the institute) in one of the tests approved by the institute like the Xavier Aptitude Test conducted by XLRI usually held in the month of January or CAT conducted by IIMs or CMAT conducted by AICTE. The cut-off scores may vary for different exams. The candidates obtaining the cut-off score will be shortlisted for the subsequent Group Discussion-Personal Interview (GD-PI) held across various places in India. Based on their performance in both the test and (GD-PI) the institute releases the list of the selected candidates on its website in the month of April. Sometimes there are waiting lists as the first list of the selected candidates may not be the final list. The final list is available by the month of May. The classes resume from the month of June.

Infrastructure

Xavier Institute of Social Service
XISS has a sprawling campus spread in 14 acres (57,000 m2) with a built-up area of approximately 72,000 square feet (6,700 m2) in the heart of Ranchi. The Institute provides hostel facility to 100 female students. The Institute has quite spacious classrooms with all modern teaching aids. Moreover there are separate common rooms for boys and girls, cafeteria and refectory, staff room, seminar rooms, conference halls, staff lounge and a well furnished air-conditioned auditorium with a seating capacity of 300 persons.



The Institute has a very well stocked library containing over 34,000 volumes of books, journals, encyclopedias, almanacs and magazines. It subscribes to more than 150 periodicals and journals. The faculty and students can access over 150 online international journals which are available through institutional subscription.



The Institute has a state-of-the-art computer lab that hosts over 210 terminals with necessary hardware support in synchronization with the needs. The Wi-Fi enabled campus sets the tone for 24x7 global connectivity. From July 2006, Institute has allotted laptops to every faculty member and students of the 1st year of PM, RD, IM, Marketing and Finance.

The institute is known in the corporate world for its Post Graduate program in Human Resource Management with leading multinationals and Indian companies coming for campus interviews.
